Hoeven Announces $1 Million Head Start Grant for Southwest North Dakota

Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $1 million for the Head Start and Early Head Start programs operated by the Community Action Partnership (CAP) in Dickinson. CAP's Head Start program provides center-based and home-based preschool services for children ages three and four in the eight counties of Region VIII, the southwestern corner of North Dakota. CAP's Early Head Start supports prenatal families and the families of infants and toddlers in the same region through parent education, home visits, socializations and family child care options.

"Today's award is an investment in the health, education and general well-being of children and families throughout southwestern North Dakota," Hoeven said. "The impact of such support can be felt now and will carry into our future, helping to ensure the continued success of our communities and our people."

The funds are made available through HHS' Head Start program, which seeks to promote school readiness for low-income children through comprehensive health, educational, nutritional, social and other services. As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven works to support programs that supplement state and local efforts to improve student achievement in primary and secondary education, especially for the disadvantaged and those in rural communities.
